Massage Therapist

Jo Carpenter

Jo Carpenter is not your average Florida massage therapist. A colorful and varied life has gifted her a profound appreciation of The Journey and nurtured in her a philosophy that emphasizes facilitating clients’ self-healing through whole-body listening and empathetic touch. She believes from personal experience in the power of massage to help return stress-battered nervous systems to a place of recovery, regulation and energization.

Jo grew up in rural Suffolk in the east of England where she meandered the footpaths and picked the fruit of the hedgerows until intellectual curiosity and a taste for adventure led her to study social sciences in strife-riven Belfast, Northern Ireland. A high-octane career in international business risk analysis ensued and with it extended sojourns in London, Kurdistan, India and China as well as a couple of Masters degrees and some language learning.

She crashed out of corporate life with whimpering and downtrodden adrenals and into a five-year decompression phase in Belize, Central America. She hiked the jungle, snorkeled the reefs, got weekly massages and founded Maya Beach Health & Wellness Center in 2014. The draw of body work and the need to heal grew ever stronger, ultimately carrying her to the acclaimed massage therapy program at Palm Beach State College in Boca Raton.

As a licensed massage therapist (MA93296), Jo’s ability to put bodies and minds at ease enabled her to rise quickly to become the Lead Therapist at a busy spa in 2020, an important stepping stone en route to The Metaphysical Healing Institute of Palm Beach.

Jo’s current interests include performing bodywork to the healing sounds of music produced by live plants selected and brought in by the client or therapist. She is also fascinated by somatic experiencing, nervous system healing and structural integration. She practices cranio-sacral therapy, reiki and polarity therapy. Jo is a certified American Council on Exercise Personal Trainer and National Academy of Sports Medicine Corrective Exercise Specialist. She is a self-confessed anatomy nerd with a particular fondness for addressing shoulder dysfunction and lower back pain.
